START PLANNING NOW TO BECOME THE NEWEST CADET IN THE BRUIN BATTALION TODAY!

The UCLA Department of Military Science offers one of the best leadership courses in the country and is part of the UCLA curriculum. During classes and field training, you will learn first-hand what it takes to lead others, motivate groups and how to conduct missions as an Officer in the United States Army.

When you graduate as an Army ROTC cadet, you will earn the rank of Second Lieutenant and be ready to start your career in a wide range of different branches and specialties. (Find out more about the Army branches).

We encourage cadets to major in any of the academic disciplines offered at UCLA.  A cadet’s major does not dictate which branch the cadet will begin his/her service to the country after graduation.  If you are not sure what you want to major in yet, try out UCLA’s MyMajor advising tool and explore which majors best match your interests and strengths. (Use the MyMajor online assessment tool.)

Not a UCLA student?  Students from area schools without an Army ROTC program on campus can become part of the Bruin Battalion.  Community College students may participate in training and classes with us to prepare for contracting when they transfer to an eligible 4-year university.  Students already attending the following 4-year university are eligible to apply to become a contracted cadet:

  • California State University, Northridge (CSUN)
  • California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA)
  • California Lutheran University
  • Loyola Marymount University
  • The Master’s University
  • Pepperdine University
